Effective 11/1/2016, Principal has leased UCCI’s network in order to help fill out areas where there are a significant amount of patients, but that are difficult for them to recruit providers.

What this means for you:

  • If you are not directly contracted with Principal Life Insurance Company, one of its subsidiaries, or its co-leasing partner, you will be reimbursed based on your existing United Concordia schedule.

  • Keep in mind that if you start treating a significant volume of Principal patients, it may be beneficial for you to explore the possibility of contracting directly with Principal, as their fee schedules are generally higher than UCCI. Additionally, Principal will often negotiate, while the UCCI fee schedule is non-negotiable.

– If you are direct with UCCI and Principal, this agreement should have no effect on your practice.
